TITLE:  PASTOR OF CARE AND COMMUNITY 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  Reports to Executive Pastor

PURPOSE Shiloh Community Church is a growing church in North Phoenix committed to making disciples who love God, love His church and show God’s love to the world. The Pastor of Care and Community is responsible for developing, championing, and growing a sustainable and Biblical culture of congregational care and churchwide community in accordance with the doctrine and ministry strategy of Shiloh Community Church. This includes the development and execution of an annual growth plan, group leader identification and recruitment, Community group questions for curriculum development, and ongoing leadership and coaching of group leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Demonstrates spiritual maturity (Colossians 2:6-7) and meets the qualifications of an elder (1 Timothy. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9). 
  2. Possess a servant’s heart (Mark 10:42-45), be teachable and humble (Phil. 2:3-7).
  3. Spend daily and structured time with God exercising the spiritual disciplines (reading Scripture, prayer, worship, etc.).
  4. Prioritize personal spiritual growth, purity, financial stewardship, and marriage.
  5. Be in full agreement with the purpose and doctrinal statements of Shiloh Community Church.
  6. Be a member in good standing of an evangelical church and be willing to become a member of Shiloh Community Church upon hire.
  7. Demonstrate an ability to work well with others in a team environment and communicate well with others when working alone.
  8. Be a ministry builder with skills in recruiting, developing, evaluating and encouraging ministry leaders.
  9. Demonstrate strong organizational and relational skills consistent with the role of a pastor.
  10. Have a high level of drive, creativity, and excellence in leadership to develop and carry out the vision of Care and Community Group Ministries.
  11. A Master’s Degree in ministry, mental health, or related field, with a minimum of three years of vocational ministry experience is preferred.

GENERAL DUTIES FOR CARE MINISTRIES

  1. In partnership with church leadership, further develop and promote a well-defined and staffed care ministry.
  2. Provide initial assessment and coordination of pastoral care and connection for prayer, hospital visits, funerals, weddings, and counseling.
  3. Develop, implement and oversee groups and events focused on recovery, mental health, marriage, and grief. This includes current care ministries functioning at Shiloh and future growth opportunities. Current church care ministries include Celebrate Recovery, Revive 40, Marriage Ministry, Grief Share, Widows Ministry,  and Benevolence.
  4. Be actively involved in leading our Celebrate Recovery Ministry at Shiloh.
  5. Review and authorize requests for the use of benevolence funds while providing pastoral care for individual(s) making the request.
  6. Provide oversight and support for the prayer ministry as a means of care for our church.
  7. Work with like-minded churches, educational institutions, and counseling associations for the training and development of collaborative ministry opportunities.
  8. Recruit, manage and retain Care Ministry leaders and volunteers.
  9. Implement various training tools, programs, and curricula as deemed beneficial for Care Ministries

GENERAL DUTIES FOR COMMUNITY GROUP MINISTRIES

  1. Develop and ensure continuous improvement and growth of Community Group involvement.
  2. Implement Community Group leader and participant recruitment methods and processes.
  3. Develop and implement a communications plan to directly connect with each Community Group leader to provide support and prayer
  4. Plan and execute regular Community Group leader training and recognition events
  5. Work with the Communication Team to create promotional materials and methods to bring awareness to Community Groups including  its purpose, importance, and how to get connected.
  6. Work with leaders to Develop Community Group questions, study materials and tools to assist the groups in their weekly discussions.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in providing care for the congregation in partnership with the entire pastoral team.
  2. Engage with homeless and individuals seeking resources in partnership with the front office staff. 
  3. Develop and implement an annual ministry calendar.  
  4. Work with the Communications Team to effectively communicate through all media (including social media) the direction, plans, and events related to Care Ministry.
  5. Develop and manage an approved annual budget for the Care and Community Groups Ministry.
  6. Ability to preach a plus but not required.
  7. Other responsibilities as assigned. 

TERM This is a full-time, ongoing position. In general, fulfilling the time commitment of this role will include time in the office, Sunday morning responsibilities, mid-week evening activities and events, and other meetings. An outcome-based performance appraisal will be conducted following the first 3 months of employment. Annual performance appraisals will be conducted thereafter.
