About Us

We are a suburban church located in beautiful East Greenwich, Rhode Island, a bay-front town of 13,000 people. We are 20 minutes south of Providence, an hour from Boston, and three hours from New York City. Rhode Island, the Ocean State, is known for its amazing restaurants and cultural experiences.

Christ Church as it exists today is the story of two churches coming together: West Bay Covenant Church and Christ Church.

The families that started Christ Church had moved here from other locations; first 2 couples, and then 12 families met and agreed to commit their time and resources to starting a new church. The first worship service was held in rented space on February 11, 1990. During that time, God provided the land on which our current building sits.

In 1997 Christ Church began to explore a relationship with West Bay Covenant Church. Both churches were seeking God’s next steps. After much prayer and discussion, the Covenant distinctives resonated with our congregation leading us to the Covenant denomination as a place of partnership. There was clear leading to bring the churches together with a new vision. Worship together began in December 1997, and Christ Church formally affiliated with the denomination as Christ Church, Evangelical Covenant in June 1998.

Our main building was built in 2000 and was quickly outgrown. We were able to purchase the office condo and the children’s ministry center when a local developer built Steepleview on the site of an old mill complex at the top of our driveway. These three sites make up our “campus.” Our goal is to be able to comfortably provide space for all of our current ministries while continuing to make room for new people from East Greenwich and the surrounding communities.
